Art Week Dubai 2022

Dubai, Alserkal Avenue, 17th St – Al Quoz – Dubai – United Arab Emirates
2022 March 8-14.

The subversive practice of the Hungarian Neo-Avantgarde has remained relevant to the present-day production of art. Many young Hungarian artists find their own paths by reinvestigating the various abstract traditions such as Op-Art, Hard-edge-, Gesture- and Radical Monochrome painting, and so on. In Hungary, the notion of abstraction was always connected to the idea of progressivity: by confronting the theoretical and ontological questions posed by the image, artists aimed at merging the global and the local, the contemporary and the timeless.

The young generation takes these diverse philosophical and pictorial influences and combines them with a postdigital sensitivity, a renewed interest in the installative aspect of painting, and the international discourse of ’Painting After Technology’. This has led to the emergence of unique propositions, enrichening the existing interpretations of painting today while the history of abstract art becomes fused with the utopian ideas of reinventing itself.

The exhibition New Perspectives on Hungarian Abstract Art presents a selection from the Central Bank of Hungary’s art collection, owned by MNB-Ingatlan Kft. It brings together some of the most prominent figures of the young abstract generation: Bea KUSOVSZKY (1986), Márton NEMES (1986) and Gergő SZINYOVA (1986). In an attempt to open up a dialogue between the abstract voices of the Arab and the Hungarian art scene, the exhibition presents a fresh overview of the experiments of the young Hungarian generation. By creating an exclusive installation of edible art, Angéla GÓG (1985), a renowned food designer, will complement the works of the exhibited artists.
