The opening of the Calculations and Coincidences exhibition, featuring works from the Hungarian National Bank’s contemporary art collection, included a guided tour by Kinga Hamvai, head of MNB Arts and Culture and the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition presents the work of three pioneering Hungarian artists in the field of algorithmic art: Vera Molnár, Dóra Maurer and Gizella Rákóczy. It places special emphasis on the significant role of Vera Molnár, who was one of the most important figures in early computer art.
The exhibition not only showcases the individual creative paths of the three artists but also highlights the common elements and overlaps in their careers. As part of the 2024 Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year, the exhibition offers an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the development of Hungarian algorithmic art and to understand how Molnár, Maurer and Rákóczy contributed to its evolution.
The exhibition runs from the 19th of September until the 26th of January.
